We’ll never use virgin, new plastic when creating our bottles-for-life. There’s enough on the planet already so why continually make more?
For some of our products we use 100% PET recycled plastic. It is a Post-Consumer Recycled plastic - or PCR plastic.
PCR comes mostly from items such as empty water bottles (made from PET) that pour into our recycling systems via your kerbside collection. The PET is melted, shredded or ground into pellets which can be remoulded to create new products without the need to include additional brand new plastic material.
PCR plastic is taking a waste product, turning it into something useful once again and keeping it OUT of landfill, OUT of the oceans and preventing it from being incinerated and releasing its carbon into the air. It’s taking material that has already been made and extending its useful life.
Creating PCR plastic uses far less water and energy than making virgin plastic and generates fewer carbon emissions too. In fact, creating a recycled PET uses 79% less energy than the equivalent in new plastic production, and it also cuts greenhouse gas emissions.*
AND what’s really great is that PCR plastic is durable. That’s important to us. We want our bottles to live on, being refilled time and time again so they need to be sturdy and long-lasting.
